"at our worst, we're brilliant. at our best, we're tedious..."

you know how hard it is for me to shake the disease...depeche mode

forever & ever...let's make this last forever...blink 182

dear diary, i'm sick. bleh! yes, sunday night i felt it coming on, and it didn't dissapoint. i'm feeling mighty bad, right now. so, monday i layed around, watched t.v. tuesday, went to work, got some antibiotics, and went to see...THE HIVES, or, THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD!!! they were incredible. i was momentarily healed by the power of rock 'n' roll. the two supporting bands were also very good. first the reigning sound played. they were sorta more mellow 60's garage cool. complete w/ groovy organ flourishes. i liked 'em. i told matt i kept waiting for sonny & cher to come frooging through the door. after all, we were on the ultra super fabulous sunset strip...j/k. the strip is fine...i guess. but, it was a fitting thought. the next band was the mooney suzuki. four bad ass motherfuckers de new york. they were soooo good. full on funky white boy rock. tambourines bounced off narrow hips, shaggy hair tossed w/ wild abandon. i was in love. the lead singer had us give the electric guitar a round of applause. genius. then, after the longest, hottest, moistest, psychotic episode inducing 45 minutes ever...the curtain went up, and the hives were revealed. there they stood, the few, the proud, the hives. w/ a huge all black and white american flag as their backdrop, and a lit up hives sign, howlin' pelle welcomed us all to the united states of the hives. they played fast, they played hard, they played for keeps. the banter between songs was hilarious. unfortunately mixing cold medication+seven&7's=less than perfect memory. i feel bad writing that, it's sooo irresponsible. i only had two. listen to me, a rationalizing son of a gun. whatev. i do remember: "in the name of global harmony we decided to play in los angeles" and "you're lucky you caught us on a good night. at our worst, we're brilliant. at our best, we're tedious" shit, there's another one...but it escapes me at the moment. anyway, funny as shit. i'm super tired right now, and i think i'm done. i just had to put this down before i forget it all. with the cold, and the ravages of time, my memory fails me. isn't that the shits? you're at a show, and you're creaming yourself, you're so happy, and you're thinking, 'this is one of the greatest shows EVER!! i want to remember every cool little detail', and the minute the lights go up, you've already forgotten some stuff. then on the drive home, you've forgotten a little more, so by the next day...forget it. oh, actually, i did. HA HA!! oh yeah, i saw sean lennon there. he was my celebrity sighting. oh, and howlin' pelle, has a great ass. goodnight...
