2002-04-06 - 10:14 p.m. passing through unconscious states. when i awoke i was on the highway, highway, highway...death cab for cutie "hello, we're Trail of Dead from Ausin, tx. thanks for coming out tonight". so began one of the most unbelievably awesome nights in my personal concertgoing career. And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead put on a jawdropping, goosebump raising, awe inspiring show. i found myself closing my eyes, and smiling several times during the evening. not once noticing i was doing it until i realized i was doing it. ??? matt walked out repeating, "fucking awesome" like a mantra. the energy was palpable. the room was electrified. the kids were alright.

my concert career,i like that. my concert career began when i was in 6th grade. my older cousins took me to see prince and the revolution at the great western forum during the purple rain tour. from that moment on i was hopelessly addicted to live music. now then, matt, and i ate cheesecake at canter's, and then we came home. the end. i got zero sleep, and was a nightmare this morning, and this afternoon, and until when i had to nap like a 2 year old, part of this evening. i knew i was in a bad way when matt teased me for acting like a baby, i seriously considered bludgeoning him to death....with his newly liberated right arm. HAA!!!! coachella is in 3 weeks, and i can't wait to see the strokes.
i really can't. and of course, THE HIVES
next month. i'm going on vaca w/ the parentals in june for like ten days. we're going to see my cousin, who just happens to be my best friend, and i was her man of honor (her term), or as i like to say her best man. yes, i was the stylish gay confidante. a role i relish, and loathe. but, for her, i'd do anything. anything at all. so we're going to san fran, and reno, and sacramento, and points in between. it'll be fun. then the first weekend in july, i will be going to hootenanny '02. hootenanny is this annual event in socal that is going on its 8th year maybe. i've gone the last 4 years. it's a rockabilly/car show/concert event. i love rockabilly. social distortion usually plays, as does the reverend horton heat, the supersuckers, hot rod lincoln, etc. i know that these bands are world travelled, and therefore world known, but it just seems so perfect for southern california. like it's only ours or something. i'm not explaining it right so i'll stop. BUT, if all you've gotten from the last few lines is - socal rules, and nobody else gets it - then re read it, and know that's not what i meant. goodnight little friend
