.....

2006-10-24 - 4:06 p.m.
hello world, i'm your wild girl.....

i finally did something that i as a born and bred southern californian should have done ages ago, went to the getty center.

why, oh, why did i wait so long?

friends have gone and told me i had to go. patches has been telling me forever. she lives about 10 minutes away in west l.a.

the getty is like heaven on earth. it's so beautiful and clean and amazing.

i'm not gonna front and act all knowledgable about art and all that. i'm totally not. that doesn't mean that i don't appreciate it when i get the opportunity to enjoy it though.

paintings by world renowned artists, photography, sculpture, a beautiful garden, amazing architecture and vistas of the city. this place is your one stop shop for art and culture.

all this for the parking fee of 8 bucks. no admission fee. so, you can load up a car, pay 8 dollars, and be exposed to hours of art and culture and beautiful surroundings.

quite the bargain for sure.

i still just can't get over how fantastic it was. i can't wait to get back either. i've raved to anyone who gives a crap (plus a few who didn't) and know that when my brother comes home from school for christmas that we are definitely taking him there.

two sad things:

first, sandy dennis of the runaways died recently. the runaways were / are one of my favorite bands. scouring record stores for rare runaways lp's is a hobby of mine. they were crucial listening to a young gay boy who loved the rock and the drama of their music.

sitting in my room, listening to rodney on the roq, late at night getting turned on to the runaways, redd kross, the nuns, x, and whatever else rodney bingenheimer felt like exposing us to. the man is a legend, a saint, a divining rod of what's happening in music.

rodney is godhead.

ten points if you get that last line.

anyway, the runaways were young girls who it turns out were treated quite cruelly by kim fowley, their svengali manager / tormentor.

sandy dennis was one tough chick pounding the drums with a ferocity that was amazing for a man or woman.

i'm lucky enough to have caught them in a semi reunion a few years ago in l.a. it was called the spirit of 76, and featured some seminal bands of that fantastic period in los angeles.

no, lita ford wasn't there, nor was joan jett, but sandy dennis was and she beat the shit outta those drums. it was as close to a runaways show as i was ever gonna get, and i consider myself lucky.

oh, yes, if i was about ten years older, i so would have been out in hollywood dancing at rodney's english disco, the starwood, and slamming at the masque.

alas, alack, born too late.

second, tower records is closing up shop. i'll admit, people like me are part of the problem. i've been going to amoeba for my music needs. also, taking advantage of the ridiculously low cd prices at places like best buy and target. so, i'm an asshole.

but, back in the day, it was all about tower records on the sunset strip. it was the best.

hollywood legends are passing. god help us all....

on a happier (lamer) note, i don't think i've raved about "brothers and sisters" on abc. it's really good. i love it. my favorite new show. there's some stuff that bugs me (sally fields histrionics) but, all in all, it's pretty damn good.

things on the homefront are going well. my sweet boy is amazing. my cooking has come along nicely, if i do say so myself.

enough rambling.......

-take it / leave it-
