ticketmistress blues

we are all just prisoners here of our own device - the eagles

hey,

i'm getting a bit of a late start today. i was up at 7:30, but i'm just now brewing the coffee and eating a sweet bread. i had two cigarettes in the back yard and the sun on my bare chest felt so good. i've got to go to my parents house to do some painting. that'll be fun. adam will be here soon as he's going to help me. i love him.

don't read too much into that. he's a good friend. sure, i'm hoping that he wears shorts so that i can drool over his hairy muscular calves, but, that's another story for another day.

oh, by the by, we got u2 tickets!! matty and i went to the robinson's may at the mall to get them. we figured we'd have a better chance than going online or calling ticketmaster. we arrived at 7 am, and there were 7 people already sitting there. the store opened at 10 am, so there was lots of downtime. i was happy as a clam with my sweet boy and my big ol cup of hot chocolate from 7-11. it's so good. anyway, we didn't think to bring reading materials or anything to pass the time, but, the 3 chatty kathies at the head of the line kept us entertained. they were young, college aged, and talked loudly enough for everyone assembled to hear every word. they were so young and excited. it was kinda cool to be around that excuberence. it made the wait bearable.

of course, if i'd waken up in a foul mood, i probably would've wanted to bludgeon them with my shoe. anyway, that wasn't the case.

a few more people joined the line and then...they came. the superfans. two teva wearing, hackey sack playing geeks. they had folding chairs, and one had a u2 book that he was pouring over with great interest. it was deserving of an eye roll. after a few minutes, one of them went back to his car and started blasting u2 from his car. after that my eyes were on auto roll. i finally had to stop because i was getting dizzy.

i'm all for superfans. i guess i just think that there's a line. they just annoyed me. don't mind me, i'm an asshole.

they opened the doors to us 5 minutes to ten, and we stood in line waiting for the big 1-0. there was one girl manning the ticketmaster terminal and that's when it started. the crowd turned mob.

"what? there's just one girl. there should be two people!" etc. etc.

ten came and the first girl was getting her tix. she payed with a credit card and the mob went crazy.

"you don't have cash?!?"

"oh, god, she's paying with a credit card"

then, three women who worked there came up and needed to be let in behind the counter where the lone ticketmistress was. so, she got up from the terminal to let them in.

the mob was not pleased.

"what is she DOING?"

"what's going on?"

the girl was like, "it'll take two seconds", and it did. but, as far as the mob was concerned, she was ruining lives.

now, here's where i can't even really explain what happened.

u2 is playing at the staples center in l.a. and the arrowhead pond in anaheim. that's in the o.c. for those who don't know. anyhoo, the next few transactions were a blur. first, the computer was saying that staples was sold out. this was after like 4 people got tickets, as you can imagine, the mob was going apeshit.

so, people were trying to get arrowhead pond tix. two guys in front of us got pond tix since the staples center was supposedly sold out. however, when they found out that their tix were going to be 95 dollars apiece instead of the 50 bucks we all thought they'd be, the guys argued about the price. the mob was yelling at the guys to "hurry up".

we were almost next, so we wanted to strangle these guys, but, we were too busy trying to get through to ticketmaster on our cell phones.

next was a girl who asked the mistress to try statples again, and she got tix. so staples wasn't sold out.

the girl after her tried to get staples tix and the mistress told her there were no more tix, so she got pond tix.

it was finally our turn. we asked for 5 tix to the pond. no go. 4 tix. nyet. 3 tix. denied.

i asked her to try staples again. 5 no. 4 no. 3....yes.

we took 'em.

they kinda suck, but we're in. so fuck it. i don't know how the 20 or so people behind us did, god bless 'em. alls i know is that we're in there.

what a mess.

i don't blame the mistress. i sort of blame ticketmaster, however, i'm not sure what to blame them for. i just feel that there's gotta be a better way to get tix out. something more efficient.

maybe i'm wrong. i understand that when a huge concert comes to town that everybody and their 3rd cousin twice removed is trying to get tix. at the outlets, on the phone, and online. it's just so chaotic.

it was nerve wracking.

as for the two people who wanted to go, sorry, but they could've gotten up at 6 am and were more than welcomed to join us. we did ask them if they wanted to come.

coachella's line-up is cool, but, not cool enough to pump my nads. i should've gone last year. oh, well.

i guess i'd better go. adam will be here soon.

later...

finn, i know i asked you before, but, can i please have a copy of your super comp? it sounds killer.

-take it / leave it-
