i bought an ipod the other day. i let the want override the actual need, and bought one.

oy.

i brought it home and discovered that i needed a certain cable. so, i shlepped out this morning, and paid 20 bucks for the cable.

i got home, stuck the cable in, and....nothing. nothing at all. i tried everything i could think of, and after about 2 minutes, was out of ideas.

i called the apple support team, spoke with a very cool guy, and found out that the ipod i bought is incompatible with my pc. what i needed to do was go back to best buy, ask for an ipod with a different serial number (that's how the apple guy knew i had an incompatible one).

okay. no problem.

the guy proceeds to ask what version of window i have, when i tell him it's windows ME, he tells me that even if i get the compatible serial numbered ipod, that starting next year, apple will no longer be supporting windows ME, and if i wanted it to work i'd have to get an upgraded version of windows.

so, that's 300 for the ipod, 20 for the protective case, 20 for the cable, and i'll have to update my version of windows.

i don't know how hard that is to do, but, i will have to pay for that, right?

anyway, i may be wrong, but this just seems like an awful lot of trouble. i'm going to best buy wednesday, returning everything, and getting a rio, or maybe the new napster/samsung mp3 player. as long as it's 10gb, and no more than 300 bucks, i don't care.

i wanted to write more, but i got this started too late. i'm tired. that ipod story wore me out.

oh, we watched "pieces of april" sunday. it was good. patricia clarkson is fantastic. i'm gonna check out "the station agent" this week for sure. maybe wednesday after best buy.

also, i finished reading "jamesland", now i'm reading "mystic river". it's very good so far. after i finish that, i'm gonna check out the movie, finally.
