2003-01-02 - 10:13 p.m.
she's not cold. she's from canada

...and it's been so long since i've seen the ocean - counting crows

i have much to say:

first: i was pretty embarrassed about my last entry. that's sorta why i haven't written lately. not that anyone's noticed, or should notice, or...well never mind. second: the past few days have been quite nutty. monday my cousin called and told me that she and her hubby were gonna spend new years eve in smltwn. seems she wanted to surprise her folks and forgot to tell me she was coming. i love her to death. we are the best of friends, BUT she's the type that's like, "i'm here. show me a good time." so, as is her way, she says she'll be in smltwn tuesday morning so they can visit our grandparents, then what can i think of doing for the afternoon. i did have that day off, and mando was already at our place, and i wanted to do pre n.y.e. entertaining type stuff, so i told her i'd talk to matt and call her back. i don't think she liked that, but noone and i do mean noone backs me into corners. matty and i talked and it was decided that he would go to the store to buy the last minute stuff so that i could spend the day with my cousin. i asked mando if he wanted to go since "the artist" wouldn't be off work til about 7:30. anywayyyysssss, tuesday my cousin, her husband, mando, and yours truly went on a whirlwind trip to la la land. we did farmers market which they loved since they (cousin/hubby) had never been to, did a little shopping at the grove. i'm starting to not hate that place as much. then, i took them to amoeba. they really loved that. i bought this cd of old pachuco be bop. i like it very much. and finally, the tried and true los feliz village tour. y-que, squaresville, skylight books, soap plant. i gave 'em their 25 cent tour and then some. at skylight books i bought this nifty little gem called "on spec". it's a, "scathing look at young hollywood." it's funny as hell, and little actual thought is required when reading it. a little fluff is fun sometimes. i also picked up "a heartbreaking work of staggering genius" by dave eggers. i've read a bit about him, and based on what faction of the skylight crowd you wanna listen to he's either the second coming or the backlash "it" boy. i dunno. i've just been wanting to read that book. i topped off our trip with a mercy stop at tommy's. my cousin said she'd been suffering from tommy's withdrawls. mando and i split some chili fries. they are the nuts. i got us home by 5:30. about an hour later than i'd intended, but when you're in a group that's just the way the cookie crumbles, y'know? i had a good time by the way. it was lots of fun and stuff. i invited my cousin over for n.y.e. they said they were staying with my grandparents, and her parents. i was secretly relieved. got mando and myself home, helped matt with the last last minute stuff, made my kick ass guacamole & chorizo potato skins, and ordered the pizzas. that's right, we ordered pizzas, made little appetizer thingies, and that was it. round table pizza in santa paula is the best pizza like ever. it's so fucking good. tried to take a nap, as if. why do i even bother? i was on the couch laying down, but i couldn't actually bring myself to close my eyes and actually attempt sleep. i heard matt and mando talking. it was amusing. matt: where's tone? mando: i think he's asleep. matt: tony? he can't nap. mando: you're right, hey tone, what are you doing? me: i'm here in the living room. matt: were you asleep? me: what do you think? matt: uh, no? me: no. matt: did he ever nap with you? mando: nope. me: would you two shut the fuck up, jesus. yeah, did i say amusing? my bad. showered, went with matt to get the pizzas, the artist got there, ate, drank, got merry, watched "signs". none of us had seen that so it was cool. i really liked that movie. i need to buy that when it comes out. it was kinda cool, sitting on our respective sofas all cuddled up with our fellas. we started doing shots about 10:30 when all the horrible n.y.e. specials started coming on. watched avril lavigne play atop times square in what i can only imagine was freezing weather wearing only a t-shirt. i was getting kinda drunk so i just couldn't get over it. "what the hell is she doing? isn't she freezing? what's wrong with her?" the artist said, "she's not cold. she's from canada." don't people in canada get cold? alls i know is, as a so-cal boy i'd fucking die in truly cold weather climates. like whatever i consider freezing here is nothing. anyway, midnight came, our balls dropped, sloppy drunken kisses all around, strip poker til 4am, then off to our beds for barely there sex. up at 9 (why, papa, why?) i was the only one up natch. made some coffee, sat in the backyard in the all together smoking a j, and sipping some good ass kona blend. went inside, molested my boyfriend, slept til noon. i was so hungover, dude. no shit. hungover like a horse. we were all basically worthless for the start of the new year. oh brother, but i do go on. later...
