whip me, beat me, make me rock

get ready, get set...what you get is electric sweat - the mooney suzuki

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE MOONEY SUZUKI ROCKED MY MOTHERHUMPIN' FACE, LAST NIGHT. i missed the very first band, and i can't remember their name. sorry. next up: sahara hotnights. they rocked. those chix were nordic cool. there's just something about those people. sorta like the french, but without the elitist bullshit. i mean really, take a shower froggy, then you can act superior to me, BUT, i digress. so, sahara hotnights, they played well, and just launched into song after song. i really fucking hate when bands play a song, then talk to each other, and keep doing that after every song, you know? very cool. as much as we all loved sahara hotnights, the next band blew everybodys socks off. a quick sidenote: at the roxy there is a curtain that goes up, and down between bands. it's sorta cool cuz it adds to the anticipation. now then, behind the curtain we hear this sexy sorta soul sista growling, and we're like, "who is that?". all of the sudden, the curtain goes up, guitars are wailing, and this thick, afroed nubian queen is fucking wailing, and shaking a tambourine within an inch of its life. ladies, and gentlemen....THE BELL RAYS. goddamn, they were hot. that chick sang her ass off. once i snapped out of my awestruckness, i looked around the joint, and saw that i definitely was not the only one who had that reaction. we were hers. she had us in the palm of her hand....and she fucking knew it. "ARE YOU READY? I SAID, ARE YOU READY? YOU BETTER BE READY!!". she was incredible. the band was great, don't get me wrong, but, she could've been back by a monkey playing the kazoo, and she woulda rocked. whew...okay, enough gushing. after such an awesome set i foolishly asked myself, 'can it get any better than that?'. the answer: ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY. the mooney suzuki made a room full of lit fuses explode. it was amazing. the songs, the energy. in fact, the lead singer told us that the mooney suzuki were invited by the "california government" to help alleviate the energy crisis, and create energy. they played with a ferocity that one doesn't see too often. the crowd handclapped, and shimmied with abandon. no small feat what with the uber-jaded hipper than th0u hollywood crowd. the finale consisted of the lead singer, and the lead guitarist climbing the speakers, and launching an all out sonic assault on a willing crowd of adoring fans. when the jumped off, and fell to the ground, still wailing away, the masses could no longer be denied. they flooded the stage, and it was a fucking love in. after the song ended, and the band retreated backstage. as the deafening roar of the crowd (and it was deafening. i thought i was in an arena sized venue for a minute) continued, they took the stage once more, did another ass kicking number, and left us in their dust. happier for the ass kicking.

after that, we went to a great little dive bar for kareoke. did i spell that right? anyway, i got sorta buzzed, and i sang with patches. bon jovi's dead or alive: i've seen a million faces...and i've ROCKED them all!! with much gusto. i also sang "yesterday" by the beatles. i can't sing for shit, by the way. but, like i said, i was buzzed. also, we could smoke in the bar. oh, how i've missed that. just sitting with your mates, and lighting up. without having to get up, and walk outside to a crowded little corral with the other smokers. the name of this mini shangri la? i'll never tell. laters...
