like my bday & christmas all wrapped into one...

aye......

so, matthew is looking peaked when i pick him up friday. sat. morning, he calls and is sick as a dog. he's puking, he's crapping. he's getting the business from both ends. i call my parents, and see if they wanna go to olvera st./citywalk now (sat) instead of tomorrow, (which is today, as i write this). they agree, and we're off. i'm very sorry about matthew, and i wasn't super stoked about pride, but, i didn't want to not go because of something like a friend being sick. i called this morning, and he thinks it's a mild case of food poisoning, or something. anyway, w/o sounding like too much of a dick, i had the BEST time yesterday. it was like my bday, and christmas all wrapped into one. we got to olvera st. about 11:15am, and checked out the shops. (side bar: olvera st. is a historic street in los angeles. it's home of the oldest standing structure in the city. aliso house built in 1818. also, it's where the city's main water supply was located. basically, the original heart of los angeles. populated by mexicans. or, for the more political, southern california's true indigenous people.) so, we walked along the block long street, and checked out the shops. lots of mexican pottery, folk art, clothing, etc. and lots of good restaurants. we ate at this great restaurant. everything was delish. watching my parents walk along the old cobblestone street hand in hand, while roaming musicians strummed guitars, and the sun shone down upon us, was in my estimation, the greatest thing ever. then, it was off to citywalk at universal studios. citywalk is like a big outdoor mall/ entertainment complex. some shops, some restaurants, and this big ass movie theater. one of those multi-multi plex deals. so, we walked around, and had a blended mocha. yummy. walked around some more. then had a dodger dog, and went home. i can't believe they had a dodger dog place. that's fucking genius. there are three southern california classics that i can think of: in n out burger (legendary cheeseburgers), tommy's (legendary chili burgers / chili fries), and dodger dogs. previously available only at dodger stadium, but, apparently no longer. cool. so, we get home about 6:30, and dan had called, and wants to know if we wanna go to santa barbara to see the original sinners. exene cervenka's new band. being the =X= fanatic that i am, how could i resist? so, we head up there about 9:15 to get there by 10. they came on about 10:30. they were awesome. sorta x-ish, sorta knitter-ish. but, very, very good. there was like 25 people there, and they played for like 1/2 hour. far too short, but, great nonetheless. afterwards, we got to talk to exene. i was inner pissing myself. she was sooo nice. she sold us some shirts, and i gave her this religious pin i had bought earlier on olvera st. she thanked me, and while she was talking to me, immediately put the pin on her sweater. we're going to see them tuesday. they're playing an in store at amoeba in hollywood. she also told us that we could bring our x stuff, and she would sign it. between dan, and i we could have her signing shit for a small eternity. poster, vinyl, assorted ephemera. but, we agreed to only take two items. so as not to be assholes. matt, was laughing at us, because when we walked out of the club, we were giggling like schoolgirls. hey, i just met one of my musical idols. i worship at the altar of exene, and to have her put her hand on my shouler, and talk to me about her shirt designs, and stuff, well, i'm sure it was no big deal to her, but, to me, oh fucking boy!! i met john doe once, and i inadvertantly (sp) pissed him off. so, i was terrified of doing the same to exene. but, happily it wasn't the case. so, all in all....one of the greatest fucking days of my life.....
